Let’s Talk About Structure
Structure is everything in nail enhancement.
Even when nails look “good” from afar, the underlying foundation can make or break the final result.
It affects:
How natural the nails look
How strong and durable they are
How flattering the shape is for your client’s hand
How comfortable the nails feel
Clients might not notice every detail — but they feel it. And a poorly structured set can make even a well-applied nail look bulky or uneven.
Examples of Nails That Screams for an Upskill Part 3
Case Study: Small Hands, Big Impact
A new client came in with a set that looked fine at first glance.
But on closer inspection:
✖ Nails were wide and thick, disproportionate to her small hands
✖ Told she couldn’t have shorter nails if she wanted them to last
✖ Lifting under some product
✖ Tips popping off due to wrong size
Here’s what I did:
Cut nails down to the length she wanted
Removed most of the product where lifting occurred
Applied BIAB — short nails don’t need hard gel for strength
Built proper structure instead of relying on thick tips or free edge
The result?
✅ Nails that are thin, even, and smooth
✅ Balanced C-curve for a natural look
✅ Proportionate width and shape for her hand
She left amazed that her nails could finally be short and functional - without bulk or compromise.
She came back after 4 weeks with no lofting. Seeing this, I realised a I could apply BIAB even thinner next time. I also need to focus on the ring and middle fingers, which grow naturally upwards, thinning the free edge more carefully so that as the nails grow out, she won't end up with little ''shovels'' pointing upwards.
Why This Matters
Many techs think strength comes from thick product or large tips.
It doesn’t.
Structure does the work.
Proper structure:
Supports the nail
Prevents lifting
Keeps the C-curve natural
Makes nails flattering for the hand
And the bonus? Clients get exactly what they want — in this case, short, elegant nails that last.
Key Takeaway
Even when nails look “fine” from afar, structure can transform a set from heavy and bulky to balanced, strong, and natural.
This is why mastering nail structure is essential: it’s the backbone of every successful enhancement.
