Still Waiting to Be “Good Enough” for Instagram? Read This.

You might not be thinking about Instagram yet - but you should.

Even if you’re still practising.

Even if your nails aren’t quite where you want them to be.

Even if you don’t feel “ready.”

You should already have your Instagram set up and working for you.

And no—“I’m not ready yet” isn’t a reason. It’s an excuse.

“Oh, but my nails aren’t perfect…”

“I’ll start once I’ve figured it all out…”

“Maybe I should wait a little longer…”

Sound familiar? You probably say the same thing about nails. “I’ll wait until they’re perfect.” But here’s the truth: they won’t be perfect for years. You’ll always spot mistakes. You’ll never feel 100% happy.

The same goes for Instagram.

You have to start, mess up, fail, learn, and keep going until it clicks. Because building your Instagram is a skill—just like shaping, painting, or filing. It takes practice.

A lot of nail techs think, “I’ll just master nails first, then clients will come.” And yes, your skills matter. But you’ll grow so much faster if you build your Instagram presence alongside.

When you show up online, people start noticing you, messaging you, and getting curious about your work. But first—they need to know you exist. That’s where your profile, bio, photos, hashtags, keywords, and standout content come in.

Before you rush to set up, though, here’s something important:

👉 When you launch a new account, the algorithm favours you for about two weeks. That’s your golden window. Instagram will push your content to more people—but only if you’re posting.

💡 Use those two weeks to post consistently (every other day if you wish to), build momentum, and get eyes on your work.

After that? You don’t need to post every single day, but you do need to add value—whether it’s tips, transformations, behind-the-scenes, or education. That’s what keeps your audience engaged.

You do not need to show your face right away - confidence take time to build. But once you start adding posts with your face or personal touch, you'll notice they always catch more attention.

A few quick rules:

  • Never make your account private (if it’s hidden, it won’t grow).

  • Create a business account for insights & features.

  • Treat it like your portfolio, not a photo dump.

Nail theGram Upskilling Manual not just for nail technicians, anyone

If you’re serious about going from scroller to creator, your mindset has to shift. No more sitting on the sidelines—you need to learn the “how” behind Instagram.

And that’s where my Nail theGram Upskilling Manual comes in.

Inside, you’ll learn:

  • Finding your niche & ideal client (this will help you to create content to your ideal client instead of posting for everyone and hoping for best)

  • Starting fresh or reviving your old account

  • Bio & profile setup (that actually converts)

  • Profile pics, highlights, and stories that tell your story

  • Posts, carousels & reels—what each is for

  • Content ideas + scheduling examples

  • When & how to post for reach

  • Hashtags, keywords & understanding the algorithm

  • Insights & analytics that matter

  • Apps & tools that make content easier

  • Feed design that catches the client’s eye

  • …and so much more.

Here’s the truth: if you start working on your nail skills and your Instagram skills at the same time, they’ll grow together. By the time your nails are next-level, your online presence will already be ready to match.

creating content for instagram as nail tech

I don’t post blindly. Every month I sit down and make a plan. Sometimes I see something online and get inspired, but most of the time my content is created with my target audience in mind — new nail techs who need help not just with skills, but with real-life situations too.

When you know who you’re speaking to, creating posts becomes so much easier than trying to please everyone (which never works). Position yourself as a specialist. That’s what keeps me on track.

And remember — you don’t need to post three times a day. The algorithm will see that as spam and show your content to fewer people. What really matters is sharing value in your posts.

Creating content doesn't have to be complicated. Sure, it takes a bit of time, but just like nails - once you know the basics, it becomes much easier.

And one more tip - do not care what others say! You are chasing your dream (while others sits on their bum and do nothing), so do not let anyone tell you it won't work. Put 150% into it and give it all. Social media moves so quickly - people scroll and forget in seconds unless something really catches their eye. I used to post stories with my three chins, making fun of it, and honestly, my followers loved it because it was real and relatable.

You will notice strangers often cheer for you more than people you actually know. Sad but true... but don't let it stay sad - let it push you forward!

Don’t wait for perfect. Start where you are—and grow from there.
