The Breaking Point in My Career

I thought I was figuring it out on my own, but something was missing. My mum booked me a one-to-one training day with her nail tech. At first, I didn’t want to go. I thought I knew it all, and all I needed was to practise and give it time. But the day ended up being completely eye-opening.

What I learned in just one day

She showed me so much I didn’t even know I was missing:

The structure of the nail and why it matters.

How to create a French manicure properly.

Correct shaping (not just “filing until it looks okay”).

How to work faster without losing quality.

Which products are worth investing in.

How to actually use an e-file safely and effectively.

And the best part? From that training day, my nails improved 100% immediately. Every set I did that day looked better, stronger, and more professional.

I already had the skill - I just didn't know how to use it properly.

mastered French manicure
Years later, after truly mastering French nails and learning how to photograph them.

Then came the real “aha moment.” When I finally understood why products behave the way they do, all the YouTube videos I had watched for months suddenly made sense. No more frustration about why my application didn’t look like theirs — suddenly, I could actually learn from them and apply it correctly.

It was a full day, no breaks, just practise and explanations. And honestly, it changed the way I saw nails.

Why it mattered so much

Up until then, I was self-taught. I had done my initial course, but it really only scratched the surface. It wasn’t enough to take me where I wanted to be. Because nails aren’t just: prep, apply product, shape a little, and paint colour on top.

There’s a whole science behind it — from structure and durability to product chemistry and technique.

And that was the moment I realised: education is the real breaking point in any nail tech’s career.

My takeaway

I thought “I got this“. But I didn’t — not until someone showed me the why behind every step.

That training day lit a fire in me. It gave me confidence, clarity, and the motivation to keep pushing forward. And it taught me the most valuable lesson:

If you want to grow as a nail tech, education is the key.

That is why I now teach

Nailing It Upskilling Manual for nail technicians

That experience is exactly why I now offer training and upskilling manuals - because

I know how big of a difference the right education makes.

Whether you prefer learning in person or at home with a step-by-step book, my goal is to give you what I wish I had in the early days: real guidance, clear explanations, and skills that actually make your work (and your confidence) stronger.

If you’re ready for your breaking point moment, check out my training or manuals - it might just be the thing that changes everything for you too.

I’ve been doing nails for 16 years, and I’m still learning every day. One course doesn’t make you ‘all set’ - growth is ongoing, keep learning even if you think you know it all.

One training session, BIAB Application, Shaping anf French manicure
Before vs after - just one BIAB upskilling session, we covered BIAB application, shaping and French finish. No more uneven nails, shaped to perfection with perfect French manicure.
