Why It’s Worth Starting Your Nail Career with Professional
When you’re just starting out, it’s so tempting to cut corners — especially when it comes to buying products. You’ve already invested in your course, maybe a few tools, and now you're staring at the price tags thinking, “I'll just get some cheap ones to practice with and upgrade later.”
I get it — I’ve been there. But here's what I wish I knew at the beginning: working with professional nail products right from the start sets the tone for everything else in your career.
When you're learning, you're still figuring out how to build structure, how much product to use, how to control your application. If the product is poor quality, you won’t get an accurate feel for what you’re doing. You’ll constantly second-guess your work. You’ll think you’re not improving, when really, it’s the product holding you back — not your skill.
Professional products give you a true reflection of your technique. They behave consistently, cure properly, and support your growth. And when you’re forming your habits — how you hold your brush, how you build the apex, how you finish the nail — you want to be learning the right way, not adjusting to cover for bad products.
It’s not just about performance, though. There’s also safety. Cheaper or unregulated brands may contain harmful ingredients or trigger allergies — for you and your clients. When you’re using something on a daily basis, it’s worth knowing exactly what’s in it and trusting the brand behind it.
And here’s the thing — clients don’t know (or care) that you’re new. They only know if their nails last, if they lift, if they chip, or if something feels off. If something goes wrong, they won’t say, “She’s still learning, it’s probably the product.” They’ll assume it’s you.
That doesn’t mean you need to buy every product under the sun. Start small, but start smart. A good-quality base, builder, top coat, and a few staple colours from a trusted brand is enough. You’ll get to know the system and build real confidence using products that actually support your work.
I've made the mistake of buying loads of cheap colours I thought I "needed" — most of them just sat there unused, collecting dust. What really made the difference in my work (and in building a loyal client base) was choosing quality over quantity.
You’re not just practicing. Every set you do is shaping your reputation — even at the very beginning. Professional products help you deliver better results, feel more confident, and grow your business on a strong foundation.
You don’t need perfect nails yet. But you do need products that give you a fair chance to get there.
But what even counts as “professional” or “branded” products?
If you’re new, it can all look the same — pretty bottles, glossy packaging, big promises. And every brand claims to be “the best.” I get it. That’s exactly why I created a manual specifically to guide you on where to invest your money first.
